Vol. 29 - Styling That Haircut + This Jewelry
With a short chop, one oil reigns supreme, and earrings get more specific.

Doesn’t it feel like everyone has a bob now? On that note, welcome Sofia Richie Grainge to the club!
I’ve been getting an earlobe-length chop for a few years now (Thank you, Tommy Buckett!). But I am lazy about styling my hair and rarely pull out a blowdryer. Instead, I rely on one obedient oil.
It behaves exactly the way I want it to, because while lots of oils can nourish your hair and feed it with lovely things, what I want from an oil is weight.

The Leonor Greyl L’Huile de Leonor Greyl is a heavyweight, in both product density and knockout capabilities:
If I want frizz to come down immediately after air drying, it does that.
If I want to give hair a piece-y texture that sits at the intersection between undone and polished, it does that, too.
If it’s humid or super hot or really any weather outside, I know a few drops will calm things down and make my hair look better.
I’m convinced that part of the reason this oil works so well for me is that I don’t use it as intended. It’s meant to be a pre-shampoo oil you leave on for a few minutes and wash out in the shower.
The story goes that the Greyl family made the original formula in the 70s after Leonor Greyl’s husband and co-founder Jean-Marie Greyl watched rain roll off palm leaves in the French West Indies. He wondered if the oils protecting the leaves could do the same for hair (the answer was yes). I never used the original formula because in 2013, the palm oil was replaced with more environmentally-friendly coconut and jojoba oils.
One rectangular bottle has lasted me over a year, but I also rely heavily on the miniature travel-size bottle. There’s only one other thing I do to style my hair: go over it with a flat iron, because even the best cuts can be susceptible to flipped-up ends.
NOW FOR THE JEWELS…

The thing about having hair that hits the top of my neck is that…long earrings feel weird now. They just don’t look quite right dangling below my ends. On the plus side, I have found a new love for ear cuffs and climbers. Basically anything you can wear without a piercing. The focus on the ear itself draws the eye upwards and feels more balanced with a cropped cut.
The two brands I go back to again and again for all things auricular are Faris and Completed Works.

The things I tend to buy are gold-plated, which is just as well because they are not secured with a piercing and it would make me too nervous to wear a high value item that can so easily slip off the ear.

In an effort to make more jewelry climb up my ears, I recently adjusted a pair of delicate drops from my best friend to the inside of my ear. It’s a Girl-with-a-Pearl-Earring-meets-an-oyster look. It sort of feels like I’m wearing Airpods without sound, but I’m feeling the oddity of it all.
Happy Weekend!
