Vol. 68 - The Ultimate Face Masks, Sheets + Patches
I've tried hundreds. These are the 11 that do the most for your skin, plus the ones you can cook dinner in.
As the hosts of my most favorite podcast “Bitch Sesh” often say in regard to the Housewives, we can hold two truths. When it comes to sheet masks and eye patches, it is this:
Sheet masks and eye masks are extremely fun to use, and can do delightful things, including helping active ingredients penetrate into your skin.
One mask will not transform your skin. And that’s okay! I say this with love.
My litmus test for a good sheet mask or eye patch is this:
It doesn’t rip upon application - The vast majority of sheet masks are comprised of a material that is soaked with a serum-like liquid. While early sheets were primarily made with fibers like cotton (looking at the OG, SK-II!), today it’s more typical to see bio-cellulose or hydrogel formats.
It fits comfortably and adheres well to your face - Your sheet mask will likely come in either one piece with cutouts for your eyes, nose, and mouth, or two pieces that tend to curve more snugly on the upper and lower face. Either way works, but the latter tends to give a better fit.
I can do something else while wearing them - Occasionally I’ll lie down and really lean into the self-care moment but more likely than not, I’m doing stuff around my apartment or getting ready to go out. Even if I’m sitting on the couch, the mask needs to stay put.
When I remove it, my skin feels cool, hydrated and firm. And the mask itself doesn’t dry out completely. Bonus if it makes me look less tired than I am.
It makes subsequent skincare or makeup products go on more smoothly.
These are the sheet masks and eye patches that pass all the tests:
